Nicklaus Children's Health System has been named one of only twelve U.S. health systems to receive the 2025 Healthcare Supply Chain Excellence Award from ECRI, a global nonprofit dedicated to advancing patient safety and quality. ECRI's annual award recognizes U.S. healthcare organizations for achieving excellence in overall spend management and adopting best practice solutions into their supply chain processes.

The Nicklaus Children’s Neuroscience Institute has a rich 45-year history of delivering world-class neurologic and neurosurgical care to children and young adults through leading edge treatment, research, surgical innovation, and compassionate, family-centered care. To reflect the institute’s growth into a globally-recognized leader, it has rebranded from the Brain Institute to the Neuroscience Institute – a name that conveys its deep commitment to advancing care and meeting the needs of children and families everywhere.

Family Advisory Council (FAC) Service Award Presented to Yohann Sandoval, RN

May 19, 2025 – The Family Advisory Council is happy to recognize the excellent service provided by Yohann Sandoval, RN. Yohann delivers care to our patients and families in the Emergency Department. This is what one of the families Yohann cared for shared, “Yohann was literally an angel, he made my daughter very comfortable during a very bad situation. He was kind, funny and very thorough. I couldn't have asked for a better nurse!"

The History of Clinical Trials

May 18, 2025 – Researchers around the world celebrate Clinical Trials Day on May 20 in recognition of the incredible advances in medicine made possible by clinical trials. This observance is timed to reflect the launch of the earliest recognized clinical trial by researcher, James Lind. Published in 1753, Lind's work compared several test groups to a control group, to demonstrate the effectiveness of citrus fruit as a treatment for scurvy.

Nephrology and Gastroenterology Research Roundup

April 22, 2025 – In recognition of World Kidney Month in March and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness Month in April, this month’s Research Roundup is dedicated to the incredible research being conducted in Nephrology and Gastroenterology. Research in these departments is advancing pediatric medicine affecting thousands of children in the U.S. diagnosed with rare disorders like Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and school-aged children reporting IBS-like symptoms.

March 18, 2025 – Thyroid cancer is rare in kids but is on the rise, especially in teens. Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers personalized care using molecular testing and works with a network of experts to improve treatment. Their team provides top-notch diagnostics, surgery, and support, making sure families stay informed and involved throughout the process.

Optimal Care, Improved Life for Children With Spasticity

March 11, 2025 – Spasticity, which is often caused by brain or spinal cord injuries, is common in children with cerebral palsy and can result in muscle tightness, spasms, and problems like chronic constipation. The Nicklaus Children's Cerebral Palsy and Spasticity Program uses a team approach, offering both nonsurgical and surgical treatments to enhance the quality of life for kids, while providing personalized care and family support along the way.

With Limb-Lengthening, Surgery Is Only the Beginning

March 11, 2025 – Liz, who was born with achondroplasia, had limb-lengthening surgery in January 2023 to help her gain more independence and improve her arm mobility. Saving Lives with a Sudden Cardiac Arrest Readiness Program

December 20, 2024 – Though rare, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the young causes tragic events that impact the entire community. Roughly 7,000 people under the age of 18 will suffer a cardiac arrest annually in the U.S. Because of education and hands-on training to school faculty, countless lives have been saved nationally. In just two years, eight lives have been saved in South Florida schools.

November 07, 2024 – When Nicklaus Children's Hospital clinicians and administrators surveyed the statewide pediatric medical landscape in 2017, they identified a gap in colorectal care. Specialists were available, but they weren't consolidated within a comprehensive program. In response, they gathered their human and technological resources and developed the Colorectal Center at Nicklaus Children's. The program launched in 2018 and has become a referral center within Florida and beyond, with many patients traveling from Latin America and the Caribbean.
