Deise Granado-Villar, MD, MPH, FAAP, has been appointed Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Medical and Academic Affairs at Miami Children’s Hospital.

Television chef Emeril Lagasse toured Miami Children’s Hospital and visited patients in the playroom on February 4. Emeril amused the young patients with the inspirational story about how he became a chef. Later that night, he celebrated the fifth anniversary of Emeril’s Miami Beach restaurant in the Lowe’s Hotel. The renowned chef donated all proceeds from the anniversary celebration to the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Miami Children’s Hospital has named Josie L. Diaz, MHSA, LHCRM, as Regional Director for Ambulatory Services South. Ms. Diaz will oversee operations of Miami Children’s Hospital Palmetto Bay Center.

Miami Children’s Hospital has been included in Parents magazine’s 2009 listing of the nation’s “Best Children’s Hospitals.” Miami Children’s is the only hospital in the state of Florida to be included in the ranking.

Miami Children’s Hospital is working to promote use of influenza vaccines among children in response to new Center for Disease Control guidelines advising that youngsters between the ages of 6 months and 18 years receive the annual immunizations.

The Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center is now offering swimming lessons in its newly constructed, heated pool. These lessons teach children about water safety and help them build the confidence and skills required to prevent drowning accidents.

Proposals to Policy: a National Conversation on Health Care Reform is a unique effort led by the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
