What is broad nasal bridge?

When the very top portion of the nose in a child is wider than typically expected, this is referred to as broad nasal bridge. In some cases, it is a normal facial feature, but it can also be indicative of certain genetic or hereditary medical conditions especially when present with other associated anomalies.

What might cause broad nasal bridge?

Broad nasal bridge can be a characteristic symptom of the certain medical conditions such as:

• Basal cell nevus syndrome
• Fetal hydantoin effect
• Other congenital syndromes

It can also be a normal familial variant.

How can it be treated?

If broad nasal bridge is not associated with a condition, then no action is needed.

When should you seek medical attention?

If a child is born with broad nasal bridge, the doctor will typically perform testing or look for other symptoms to determine if a specific genetic or hereditary condition is present.
