What are abnormally shaped teeth?
Any tooth that grows or develops an unusual shape can be classified as an abnormally shaped tooth. These can occur due to genetic or environmental factors and may impact either the size or shape of the tooth. What might cause abnormally shaped teeth?
Abnormally shaped teeth can occur for a wide variety of reasons. Some of the conditions that may be related to abnormally shaped teeth include:- Cerebral palsy
- Ectodermal dysplasia
- Congenital syphilis
- Cleidocranial dysostosis
- Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
- Ellis-van Creveld syndrome

How can it be treated?
If a tooth or multiple teeth appear to be growing abnormally, it’s worth a visit with a dentist or another health care provider. When should you seek medical attention?
A doctor can look for other signs and symptoms to determine if the abnormally shaped teeth are related to another medical condition. A dentist may be able to recommend corrective options for the abnormally shaped teeth, including orthodontia, crowns, veneers or composite resins.Reviewed by: Patrick Lolo, DMD
