Liv and Eva are Living Life to the Fullest

Sisters Liv and Eva suffered from debilitating abdominal pain and inflammation.  After frequent trips to the emergency room became a part of their routine and countless doctor visits, they found hope at Nicklaus Children's with the groundbreaking IB-STIM treatment.

Patient of the Month: Mark

April 30, 2025

It is difficult for Mark, a non-verbal young man living with Autism, to communicate his ailments. But after a visit to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Emergency Room (E.R.), Mark's life changed for the better. This one visit led him to a specialized team of physicians from the Division of Gastroenterology and the Undiagnosed Disease Clinic which would provide more insight into Mark's overall health.

Patient of the Month: Adam

March 31, 2025 – At three, Adam's family moved to Florida, where they started fresh with a new medical team for his stage four Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). At Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Adam received expert care from a multidisciplinary team of specialists from Nicklaus Children’s Division of Nephrology, Division of Endocrinology, and Division of Gastroenterology, all who helped him overcome various health issues and be where he is today.

Melany's Story

December 29, 2021 – Melany began experiencing stomach pain and rapid weight loss, and later that year, she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. A family friend recommended Dr. Crim from Nicklaus Children's Hospital, and Melany's mom decided to give her a visit. Melany has now reached a healthy weight and learned to manage her condition.

Krue's Battle With Crohn’s Disease

December 20, 2021 – Krue began experiencing frequent high fevers and changes in his bowel habits when he was only 5 years old. After several tests and procedures were performed, Krue was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

Patient of the Month: Graciela

July 19, 2021

After experiencing sudden weight loss and stomach pains, Graciela was taken to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. In reviewing tests and images of Graciela's digestive tract, doctors found ten ulcers and determined a diagnosis, Crohn's disease.

Jayden Hong: A Gastroenterology Success Story

September 04, 2020 – Jayden Hong’s gastrointestinal symptoms started when he was just a few months old.
“He would wake up around 4 a.m. every night choking. It was a constant checking on him at night and very stressful. We put him on reflux medicine, but it just kept getting worse,” said Andrea Ramos. “He would eat and food would get impacted.”

Ruby’s Journey to Cancer Free

September 01, 2016 – Ruby began complaining of what she thought was a tummy ache. After two or three days with no improvement, her father made an appointment with a gastroenterologist at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, who discovered a mass in the child’s abdomen—it was cancer.

Patient of the Month: Tonaly

August 08, 2016 – At just 17 years old, Tonaly was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a condition that kept her in the hospital for almost three months. Thanks to the treatment she received at Nicklaus Children’s, Tonaly no longer experiences the strong pains she once did, and with the help of Lisa, she developed the strength to face her condition head-on.

Maddy's Success Story

September 14, 2015 – When Maddy was only 12 hours old, she was flown to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to undergo the first of several surgeries to treat spina bifida, a congenital condition that affects the backbone and membranes around the spinal cord. Thanks to a multidisciplinary team approach, Maddy received coordinated care by an array of subspecialists. 

Amelia's Success Story

January 12, 2012 – Amelia was born with gastroschisis. She was taken into surgery the day she was born, days after she required yet another surgery adn was transferred to Nicklaus Children's Hospital via Life Flight for emergency surgery.
