What is staphylococcal syndrome?

Staphylococcal syndrome is a skin condition also known as scalded skin syndrome. It’s due to toxins released by the Staphylococcus bacteria.

What causes staphylococcal syndrome?

The bacteria Staphylococcus is the direct cause of the infection. The bacteria are often present colonizing the skin, the respiratory track or genital area of people and do no harm. When these bacteria cause tissue infection they release toxins, however, they can cause staphylococcal syndrome.

What are the symptoms of staphylococcal syndrome?

Skin blisters, large portions of skin that shed, pain, redness, wet areas of the skin and fever are all signs and symptoms of staphylococcal syndrome.

What are staphylococcal syndrome care options?

Intravenous antibiotics followed by oral antibiotics can treat staphylococcal syndrome. Fluids help with dehydration and cold compresses can help soothe the skin.
