BRAVO Placement

Also known as: Bravo esophageal pH test.

What is BRAVO placement?

BRAVO esophageal pH test is a test performed to determine if a patient has acid reflux. In order to conduct the test, doctors need to attach a small capsule with a sensor to the wall of the esophagus. This procedure is known as BRAVO placement.

What happens during the procedure?

While asleep, doctors pass an endoscope through the throat and into the esophagus. The BRAVO capsule is attached to the wall of the esophagus using the endoscope. 

Is any special preparation needed?

You’ll need to avoid food, drink and certain medications for a set period of time before the procedure.

What are the risk factors?

Infection, bleeding or perforation of the esophagus are potential risks of BRAVO placement.
