What is behavioral modification?

Behavioral modification is a treatment method that attempts to change negative behaviors through the use of positive or negative reinforcement. It has shown value as a treatment for ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorder, phobias, separation anxiety disorder and other issues.

How does behavior modification work?

Behavioral modification is a method of changing child behavior that extends beyond the doctor’s office. Examples of the method include offering rewards for positive behavior, and punishing children for negative behavior. Over time, the idea is for the desired behavior to be reinforced through the use of these methods.

Is any special preparation needed?

No special preparation is needed for this test. Parents and caregivers may require education in order to use the method properly.

There are no risk factors related to behavioral modification.
