At just 500 grams, barely over one pound, a premature baby at Nicklaus Children's received lifesaving care through a PDA closure inside the incubator - a minimally invasive procedure performed right at the bedside in the NICU using ultrasound guidance only.

Led by Dr. Shyam Sathanandam, Chief at the Nicklaus Children's Heart Institute, and supported by our expert cardiac care team, the infant stayed inside the incubator, never disconnected from the ventilator, with no incision required and no exposure to radiation or contrast agents. This specific procedure took just 22 minutes, making it as safe and simplistic as placing an IV catheter.
