Boy with birth defect travels to South Florida for major surgery

MIAMI (WSVN) - A little boy with a birth defect traveled to South Florida for a major operation that has already saved one life and changed another. Six-year-old Mesut Hosein traveled from his home in Trinidad and Tobago to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, where he had extensive surgery to fix a birth defect.

To provide patients with BWS and their families with medical and emotional support, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital began hosting the Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) Patient & Family Conference.
A generous $1 million donation is supporting a new, state-of-the-art piece of medical equipment for cardiac patients at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. The technology was possible because of the generosity of South Florida residents Howard and Debbie Belford, whose granddaughter had once received live-saving surgery at the hospital.
