Meet Bria the Miracle

Twins Akia and Bria were born at just 34 weeks with one major difference - Bria was born with OEIS Syndrome, also known as Cloacal Exstrophy. After spending her first five days in the NICU under the care of our pediatric surgeon and pediatric urologist, Bria received her first abdominal reconstruction surgery.

Tiny but Mighty: 1.2LB Baby Girl Leaves NICU After Three Months

Just a few days after baby girl Pierson was born, when she still weighed only 1.2 lb, a small catheter was placed through her vein to deliver a tiny device to treat her congenital heart defect all while she remained in her incubator.

Meet Anya, Lily and Kian: First set of triplets delivered at Jupiter Medical Center, a Nicklaus Children's Hospital Affiliate

Lana was speechless when she and her partner found out they were expecting triplets after a successful IVF fertility treatment. The couple experienced many emotions, including excitement about growing their family, and concern about whether there would be any health risks associated with carrying the triplets to full term. At 32 weeks, Lana delivered the triplets at Jupiter Medical Center.

Patient of the Month: Bradley

April 28, 2021 – After being transferred via LifeFlight ambulance to Nicklaus Children's Hospital shortly after birth, Bradley was placed on medication to help control his overproduction of insulin. After tests showed he suffered from diffused white matter damage, aggressive intervention was required. Overcoming countless challenges, 54 days later Bradley graduated out of the NICU and was able to continue healing at home.

Patient of the Month: Charlie

December 03, 2018 – After surviving a high-risk pregnancy with a set of twins, the Strombom’s were faced with yet another complication. Their third child, an unborn baby named Charlie, was diagnosed with a congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) and underwent two in utero interventions to allow for a full and healthy gestation period. Once delivered, the LifeFlight team from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital was on stand-by to transport Charlie from West Palm Beach to Miami.

Logan's Journey with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

November 30, 2018 – Logan Perry was born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a rare birth defect in which the diaphragm does not develop properly. Thanks to the experts at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, Logan had corrective surgery and is developing into a rambunctious toddler. 

Patient of the Month: Theodore

March 15, 2018 – When she was just 18 weeks pregnant, Micheleen, learned that her baby would be born with a congenital heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped, as well as a cleft palate and cleft lip.

Patient of the Month: Piero

August 02, 2017 – Meet our August Patient of the Month, Piero. Born at just 27 weeks old, Piero had to be admitted into the NICU at the hospital where he was born and was intubated to allow his lungs to continue developing.

Patient of the Month: Lukas

February 07, 2017 – As a newborn, Lukas was in cardiac arrest and brought to Nicklaus Children's Hospital, where he underwent open heart surgery and placed on a Cardiopulmonary Bypass Machine, which stabilized his condition.

Patient of the Month: Emily

May 12, 2016 – Emily was born with Pierre-Robin sequence, a condition present at birth which tends to cause a small jaw, a tongue that is displaced back towards the throat and a cleft palate. She was brought her to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery to repair her cleft palate, and since then her life has completely turned around.

Maddy's Success Story

September 14, 2015 – When Maddy was only 12 hours old, she was flown to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to undergo the first of several surgeries to treat spina bifida, a congenital condition that affects the backbone and membranes around the spinal cord. Thanks to a multidisciplinary team approach, Maddy received coordinated care by an array of subspecialists. 

Leondre's Success Story

January 19, 2015 – Leondre was born at just 24 weeks old weighting only 1lb, 9oz. A week after his birth, he was flown to Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's Hospital, to receive advanced care in the hospital’s Level 1 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Austin's Success Story

March 19, 2014

Austin was born blue, floppy and unresponsive. Immediately rushed to Nicklaus Children's Hospital, the nurses and doctors treated him back to health.

Robert's Success Story

March 19, 2014 – Robert was born in respiratory distress. Nicklaus Children's Hospital sent a mobile unit to pick him up to transport him back to their brand new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He is now an extremely successful computer engineer with two beautiful boys of his own.

Jaslene's Success Story

March 19, 2014 – Baby Jaslene was born three months before her due date. She weighed only two pounds. She couldn't breathe or eat on her own, but with care from the NICU, she started to get stronger and more active.

Sebastian's Success Story

January 20, 2012 – Within ten hours of being born, Sebastian was diagnosed with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF). The day after he was born, he was flown to Nicklaus Children's Hospital where he had an operation to repair his esophagus.

Jennifer Joy's Success Story

January 20, 2012 – Jennifer was born a premature baby. She was in the NICU for about two weeks. She was not expected to love past the age of five, and without her initial diagnosis, she would not be alive today.

Eric's Success Story

January 18, 2012 – Eric's mother was diagnosed with placenta previa and carefully carried him for just less than eight months. His world was great until he went into shock at three weeks old and was then rushed to Nicklaus Children's Hospital and his parents were told that the doctors were “not sure if what he had was compatible with life or not.”

Jennifer's Success Story

January 12, 2012 – An emergency cesarean was performed before Jennifer was born at 23 weeks and weighed only 14 ounces. She is now a small but an active 2-year-old.
