Graduate Medical Education (GME)
Welcome to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital, Graduate Medical Education (GME) Department.
Our goal is to provide an optimal learning environment for the acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes by our graduates, in order to achieve the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishments in their field.
Our three-year Pediatric Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), with participation limited to 84 residents and two chief residents. The focus of the program is to prepare residents for a lifetime of quality practice either in primary care pediatrics or in the subspecialty of their choosing.
GME Department offers training in a variety of subspeciaties through our Fellowship Training Programs.
Nicklaus Children's Hospital is also a pediatric training site for 200 rotating residents and subspecialty residents per year from participating institutions such as Cleveland Clinic, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Nova Southeastern University, and other facilities. The GME program offer electives for residents and fellows from ACGME-accredited programs across the USA and Canada.

Sleep Deprivation Info
The SAFER (Sleep, Alertness, and Fatigue Education in Residency) Task Force from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine have prepared this educational module to educate residents on the effects of sleep deprivation we have all experienced in residency. It is comprised of a PowerPoint presentation accompanied by speakers notes as well as a pre-test, post-test and survey on attitudes.

For Rotating Residents
If you are a resident or fellow from an approved residency program that Nicklaus Children's Hospital is not affiliated with, please contact the Department of Medical Education for details on how to set up an elective rotation. We will do the best to work with you to have your request fulfilled but cannot guarantee any rotation.
The Medical Education Office will need the following from you prior to starting your rotation:
- Application Form (to be completed for each noncontiguous rotation at Nicklaus Children's Hospital.
- Copy of ECFMG certificate, if applicable
- Questions answered (80% passing rate required) and signed acknowledgment from the on-line orientation
- Florida Medical License or Training License required (Nicklaus Children's Hospital Medical Education staff will check)
- Nicklaus Children's Hospital Medical Education Office must have current rotation schedule or approval letter from your sponsoring hospital
- A signed contract between Nicklaus Children's Hospital and the parent program
- You will be required to get a Nicklaus Children's Hospital ID badge made your first day, which is required to be worn visibly at all times while on campus.
