Ureterocele

Also known as: fetal ureterocele.

What is ureterocele?

The ureters connect the kidneys to the bladder and allow urine to pass through. When swelling occurs near the bottom of a ureter where it connects with the bladder, this is known as ureterocele.

What causes ureterocele?

Ureterocele occurs as a birth defect. The precise cause of the defect isn’t known.

What are the symptoms of ureterocele?

Fever, painful urination, blood in the urine, abdominal pain, fever and urinary tract infections are all potential symptoms of ureterocele.

What are ureterocele care options?

The most common treatment of ureterocele is typically surgery to solve the problem. Medications can also be used to treat infections and provide other supportive care.
