Nearly 800 celebrities, community leaders, philanthropists,
physicians, friends, supporters, patients and families of Miami
Children’s Hospital experienced a bold and elegant depiction
of “A Brazilian Carnival” at MCH Foundation’s 2013 Diamond
Ball held in October. The black-tie affair raised more than
$5 million, including announced gifts, that will help support
world-class care at Miami Children’s Hospital. The 2013
Diamond Ball was led by Chairs Marile and Jorge Luis Lopez
and International Chairs Ana and Tony Figueroa Cisneros. As a
highlight of the soiree, Grammy Award-winning singer Juanes
was inducted into the Ambassador David M. Walters Pediatric
Hall of Fame.
‘Bella’s Promise’ Project
MCH Foundation joined the Live Like Bella Foundation
in December to create a very special partnership, now
celebrated as “Bella’s Promise.” The partnership was
announced on the birthday of Bella Rodriguez-Torres, the
young cancer victim commemorated through the Live Like
Bella Foundation™. The partnership focuses on increasing

A highlight of the Diamond Ball was an announcement by
world-renowned Italian fashion house Cruciani of a special
donation of 600,000 of its popular macramé lace bracelets to
raise funds for Together For The Children, The Campaign For
Miami Children’s Hospital. A limited edition bracelet featuring
the hospital’s logo was presented to the celebrities in
attendance, including Miami Heat players Ray Allen and Shane
Battier, and the evening’s honoree, Grammy award-winning
singer Juanes. The unprecedented donation also marked
a milestone for Cruciani in the expansion of its brand in
the American market. Since the announcement in October,
Cruciani has become an important fundraising initiative
for the foundation. The bracelets are available at
mchf.org/cruciani
, and also at the main campus gift shop.
Walking Together for the Children
MCH Foundation donor Miguel “Mike” B. Fernandez made
a heartfelt journey in 2013, walking from France to Spain
to raise funds to support Miami Children’s Hospital. After
his 19-month-old granddaughter, Daniella, underwent
open-heart surgery through the hospital’s Heart Program,
this remarkable donor was moved to do something
extraordinary for the institution that saved her life. In honor
of Daniella and all children, Mr. Fernandez embarked
on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. With
this endeavor, dubbed Walking Together for the Children,
Fernandez, raised more than $1 million for Together For The
Children, The Campaign For Miami Children’s Hospital. He
invited all who felt inspired by his journey to follow him
through various social media channels, and received the
support of several celebrity friends, including Ray Allen,
Andy Garcia and Martin Sheen.
