What is non esterified free fatty acid?

Measuring the level of non esterified free fatty acids, the major component of triglycerides in the bloodstream is useful in determining how well somebody is controlling their non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus symptoms.

What happens during the procedure?

A routine blood draw is required in order to begin the non esterified free fatty acids test. The blood sample is then taken to a laboratory for testing and analysis.

Is any special preparation needed?

The patient should fast before the test.

What are the risk factors?

Infection, bleeding and damage to surrounding organs and tissues are potential risks of the non esterified free fatty acids test.
