However, almost 300,000 children cope with the joint pain, swelling and limited mobility associated with arthritis in the U.S. alone. Though there are many forms of arthritis in children, they are typically classified under the term juvenile arthritis.
Rheumatic diseases may not get the same attention as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer, but they affect far more than the joints—often impacting tendons, ligaments, bones, and muscles as well. They’re also remarkably common: approximately 300,000 children in the United States are living with a rheumatic disease.
