Pediatric Arthritis Patients from Miami Children's Hospital Attend Camp Funrise
Published on: 7/24/2012
Two dozen children from Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) attended Camp Funrise, a week-long, annual sleepover camp for MCH patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, a condition where the joints become inflamed causing swelling, heat and pain. Camp Funrise took place from Sunday, June 24 to Saturday, June 30, 2012 at AD Barnes Park in Miami.

Under the supervision of MCH nurses and medical staff, the campers were able to participate in typical camp activities within a safe and caring environment. The activities included a trip to a Miami Marlins game, swimming with the Dolphins, and karaoke night, to name a few. They also took part in a variety of exercises such as kick boxing, Zumba and Thai Chi to help with their rheumatologic needs. Camp Funrise is free for all of its campers and is sponsored by Miami Children's Hospital and the Florida Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
