Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) will host its 40th Annual “Perspectives in Pediatrics” Pediatric Postgraduate Course January 28 through February 3, 2005 at the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort on Miami Beach. Approximately 1,000 pediatricians from the United States, and South and Central America are expected to be in attendance.

“Perspectives in Pediatrics is the nation’s longest-running independent continuing medical education program,” said Christian C. Patrick, MD, PhD, Program Chair and MCH Chief Medical Officer/Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs. “This year’s forum will include lectures from guest faculty assembled from throughout the country as well as host faculty from Miami Children’s Hospital.” 

Highlights include:
Larry Pickering, MD, Director of The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Vaccine for Children Program will speak on “21st Century Emerging and Reemerging Infections in Pediatrics.” 

Muin J. Khoury, MD, PhD, Director of The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Office of Genomics and Disease Prevention will discuss “Human Genome Project: Implications for the Practice of Pediatrics in the 21st Century.” 

John Agwunobi, MD, MBA, Secretary of the Florida Department of Health will present “Impact of Public Health Issues on the Future Practice of Pediatrics.” 

In addition, MCH specialists representing virtually every pediatric subspecialty will provide lectures on a broad range of topics, including:

• Binge Drinking in Adolescents
• Endocrinology for the Practicing Pediatrician
• Feeding Disorders in Children

The course has been designated for a maximum of 55 hours of category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. It has also been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 54.50 prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
