The campaign to cure pediatric cancer made some headway yesterday when Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez presented a check for $15,000 to the Miami Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. Dr. Enrique A. Escalon, Director Cancer Center and Juan R. Gonzalez-Barroso, VP, Professional Services Miami Children’s Hospital accepted the funds which will help finance clinical research focused on finding a cure.
Commissioner Gimenez is a strong supporter of the cause and has committed to contributing again next year.
The Cancer Center at Miami Children's Hospital is the region’s largest and most comprehensive cancer center for children. It provides care for more pediatric cancer patients than any other facility in South Florida. The Center offers comprehensive diagnostic services and treatments for children with cancer, leukemia and blood disorders.“It is amazing to see these children show such resistance to this debilitating disease and with such upbeat attitudes,” said Commissioner Gimenez. “They deserve a chance at a healthy and long life. That’s why I plan to be here for them again next year with another contribution that will hopefully make a difference in the race to find a cure.”
