MIAMI, FL — Miami Children's Hospital (MCH) has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound from the American College of Radiology (ACR) making it the only freestanding children’s hospital in Florida to be granted this distinction.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. Evaluation was conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are expert in the field. 

“We are pleased that our efforts have earned us recognition from our peers,” said Dr. Teresa Gross Kelly, pediatric radiologist and director of the ultrasound department. “This recognition is a tribute to the expertise of our entire ultrasound department team. Everyone involved has worked together to ensure that we deliver state-of-the-art, high-quality care to our patients.”

The MCH Ultrasound Department consists of a unique team with more than 50 years of combined experience and provides a complete ultrasound service from standard to highly specialized pediatric and vascular procedures such as Transcranial Doppler ultrasound imaging for patients with sickle cell anemia. Such tests are performed quickly and painlessly, and provide solid important data for physicians. 

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists with program focusing on the practice of medical imaging and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. 

Founded in 1950, Miami Children’s Hospital is the only licensed specialty hospital for children in South Florida. The 268-bed medical complex offers comprehensive medical care and services for children from birth to age 21.
