Published on: 8/16/2010
MIAMI – (August 16, 2010) – Major General Frank J. Padilla visited Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) on August 11, 2010 to meet with hospital administrators about business practices and greet hospitalized children. A group of approximately 40 airmen and women toured the hospital, focusing primarily on departments where Lean methodology has been successfully utilized. Lean is a business model that is used to accelerate the velocity and reduce the cost of any process by removing waste.
The goal of the Air Force Reserve’s visit to MCH was to learn from the hospital’s outstanding Lean practices and take some of those practices back to their bases as they seek to increase their own efficiency. MCH is a leader in Lean, winning four awards recognizing the hospital’s deployment of Lean business improvement models at the 2009 Global Six Sigma & Business Improvement Awards annual awards ceremony. Miami Children’s received more awards than any other entrant during the event.
