CIO Ed Martinez Awarded South Florida Business Journal CIO Lifetime Achievement Award

Miami-- Ed Martinez, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Miami Children’s Hospital, has been awarded South Florida Business Journal’s 2013 CIO Lifetime Achievement Award. The SFBJ CIO Awards honor chief information officers who lead their organizations in delivering business value and innovative use of IT in the private and public company sectors.
“Innovation in technology is a priority for us, especially in the highly automated environment we live in. It is our commitment to offer the best in technology to optimize care and access to information for the patients and families we serve. I am honored to be recognized by the South Florida Business Journal and would like to thank the MCH IT Department for its continued support and excellence in healthcare technology,” said Mr. Martinez.
Mr. Martinez’s IT vision and guidance help MCH stay on the cutting edge of medical innovation. He was instrumental of the hospital’s transition to an electronic medical record. Under his leadership, MCH launched a smartphone App with an array of service enhancements that include indoor way-finding, urgent care wait times and purchase of food and gift items. The IT Department was also responsible for creating the technological framework for MCH Anywhere, the hospital’s telemedicine program that enables patients and families to connect to MCH physicians from anywhere around the world.
Mr. Martinez was recently honored by Computerworld as a Premier IT honoree and was a Citrix Innovation Award finalist in 2013. The IT Department at Miami Children’s has been named to IDG Computerworld’s ‘Best Places to Work in IT, for the last three consecutive years.
