Knock Knees

Also known as: genu valgus.

What is knock knees?

Knock knees, or knocked knees, is a condition where a child’s legs bend inward at the knee. Knock knee symptoms may include an unusual walking pattern, difficulty walking, and rare instances of pain.

What causes knock knees?

The precise cause is not always clear. Children in their first 3-4 years of growth will often develop a mild degree of knock knees that resolves itself spontaneously. However, some cases are a result of additional bone diseases or injuries.

What are knock knees treatment options?

Knock knees can resolve on their own, requiring only observation to assess the progress over time. However, some patients with knock knees due to growth plate injuries or metabolic diseases (e.g. Rickets) may need surgery to grow or realign the bone. Whether your child requires a small outpatient surgery or a more extensive procedure, our highly trained physicians will work to provide the best care possible.
