Nicklaus Children’s Heart Institute continues to lead the way in innovation for children with complex heart conditions. Our Heart Institute’s cardiovascular surgery team recently performed a Norwood valved Sano procedure — an advanced surgical technique pioneered by Dr. David Kalfa and offered by only a few centers in the country.

Why it matters: This approach can help babies born with severe heart defects have better early circulation compared to the traditional Norwood procedure. This milestone is another step forward for families in Florida, bringing cutting-edge congenital heart care closer to home — and giving babies born with the most complex defects a stronger start.
