What is fibromyxoid sarcoma?

Fibromyxoid sarcoma is a rare form of cancer that most commonly affects the arms, hands, legs, feet or trunk. It tends to occur in the deep soft tissues of the body, and the thigh is the most commonly affected area.

What causes fibromyxoid sarcoma?

Like most cancers, the root cause of fibromyxoid sarcoma is due to changes in a cell’s DNA. What specifically causes this change to occur isn’t clear.

What are the symptoms of fibromyxoid sarcoma?

Fibromyxoid sarcoma tends to grow slowly, so many people with the condition don’t experience any symptoms. A noticeable lump, pain and swelling are potential symptoms as the tumor grows larger.

How can fibromyxoid sarcoma affect children?

Fibromyxoid sarcoma is rare in children. Young adults are the group that most commonly experiences this form of cancer.

What are fibromyxoid sarcoma treatments?

Surgery to remove the tumor and surrounding tissue is the standard of care for fibromyxoid sarcoma. In some cases, radiation therapy and chemotherapy may also be used in conjunction with surgery.
