Biography
Yonit Sterba, MD
Pediatric Rheumatologist
Dr. Sterba is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is a pediatric rheumatologist within the Division of Rheumatology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Dr. Sterba earned her medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela Escuela de Medicina José María Vargas in Caracas. She then completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx, New York. Her clinical interests include childhood-onset lupus, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, juvenile dermatomyositis and transition of care.
Dr. Sterba is board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric rheumatology. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Rheumatology and Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA). Dr. Sterba’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at conferences both nationally and globally. She is involved in ongoing research related to the evaluation of ovarian reserve and function in adolescent females with systemic lupus erythematosus, as well as an observational study of pediatric rheumatic disease through the CARRA Registry.
The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric program in South Florida providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary diagnosis, treatment and support for families of children affected by rheumatologic conditions. Our team of board-certified pediatric rheumatologists collaborates with physical and occupational therapists, social workers, dieticians and behavioral specialists to support the child and family in managing rheumatologic-related chronic conditions to achieve the highest possible quality of life.
