Biography
Jahn Avarello, MD, MBA
System Chief, Emergency Medicine Services
Dr. Jahn Avarello serves as chief of Emergency Medicine Services for Nicklaus Children’s Health System. In this role, Dr. Avarello oversees all Nicklaus Children’s pediatric emergency care sites from southern Miami-Dade to northern Palm Beach counties. Additionally, he directs growth and strategy efforts for Nicklaus Children’s emergency care services throughout South Florida and beyond.
Dr. Avarello is a board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physician with a distinguished leadership background. He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, completed his general pediatrics residency at Schneider Children’s Hospital in New York, and pursued a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University’s Zarb School of Business, completed all four phases of the ACEP Emergency Department Directors Academy and graduated from Northwell Health’s two-year Physician Leadership Development Program.
Before joining Nicklaus Children’s, Dr. Avarello served as chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Northwell Health’s Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where he co-led the effort to secure the first ACS-certified Level I pediatric trauma center designation in New York City. He also served as regional medical officer for PM Pediatric Care in South Florida, where he launched multiple pediatric urgent care sites and achieved top patient and employee satisfaction scores while driving operational efficiency.
An accomplished clinician and educator, Dr. Avarello has been active in national professional organizations, including leadership roles within the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Avarello is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
